SMART Drug Based Targeted Delivery: A New Paradigm for Nanomedicine Strategies

International Journal of Immunotherapy and Cancer Research Review Article SMART Drug Based Targeted Delivery: A New Paradigm for Nanomedicine Strategies Abstract Introduction: Targeted drug delivery systems are nanoscale drug carrier molecules designed for improving the communication of cellular and molecular components and biodistribution of tumour targeted drug (chemo) therapeutics. Nanomaterials are generally clusters of molecules, atoms and molecular fragments into extremely small size particles (1-100 nm) in nature. Nanomaterials engineered as self-assembled biodegradable particles were used for targeted drug delivery system. Nanocarriers/particles should be- capable of transporting high doses of chemotherapeutic drugs/nanomedicines into the targeted tumor cells without disturbing the normal healthy cells. It is also used for construction of novel targeted drug delivery system and future application in nanovaccination and nanotechnology. http: //www. peertech

The Effects of Substance Abuse Following Personal Injury: Five Case Studies from a Medico-Legal Context

Journal of Addiction Medicine and Therapeutic Science Case Report The Effects of Substance Abuse Following Personal Injury: Five Case Studies from a Medico-Legal Context Abstract The purpose of this paper is to describe the multivariate effects of compensable injury on addictive behaviors, especially in relation to substance abuse. Five case studies are broken down into (a) post-accident addiction and (b) pre-accident addiction. These vignettes indicate that within a personal injury the problem of substance use or abuse is hardly independent of other factors. It is linked to pre-accident factors as well as post-accident adjustment. Links with personality disorder and criminal behaviour are also documented. Substance abuse following accident or injury does not occur in a personal or social vacuum. The influence of pre-accident addiction is stressed. It is argued that a generalised theory of addiction in relation to personal injury is not sustainable and that it applies across a

Lethal Food-Induced Anaphylaxis in Children

Journal of Vaccines and Immunology Case Report Lethal Food-Induced Anaphylaxis in Children Abstract Despite careful contributions, food allergic children have a significant risk of anaphylactic episodes. Especially at risk are children not accompanied by parents or caregivers in public places, or restaurants, or not provided with injectable epinephrine. We shortly report two children and conclude that parents should be provided with medication for emergency treatment. http: //www. peertechz. com/Vaccines-Immunology/pdf/JV I-1-106.pdf

Mitral Valve Obstruction and Pulmonary Hypertension Caused by a Giant Left Atrial Myxoma Prolapsing in the Left Ventricle

Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine and Cardiology Case Report Mitral Valve Obstruction and  Pulmonary Hypertension Caused  by a Giant Left Atrial Myxoma  Prolapsing in the Left Ventricle Abstract Atrial myxomas are the most common primary cardiac tumors to diagnose. They are benign and have variable presentation. They have an excellent prognosis following surgical excision. We report a case of a 60 year old female who presented with initial signs of both right and left heart failure, fever and cough. Auscultation of the heart revealed an apical mid diastolic murmur. Trans-thoracic and trans-esophageal echocardiography revealed a pedunculated, giant left atrial myxoma that prolapsed through the mitral valve into the left ventricle in diastole producing functional mitral valve stenosis. The patient underwent a successful surgical excision of the tumor. The diagnosis and management of atrial myxomas is here reviewed. http: //www. peertechz. com/Cardiovascular-Medicine-C

Article Nutritional Supplementation in HIVInfected Children: A Review

Journal of HIV for Clinical and Scientific Research Review Article Nutritional Supplementation in HIVInfected Children: A Review Abstract The nutritional status of HIV-infected children in terms of anthropometric indices and micronutrient concentrations is commonly compromised. Malnutrition is a risk factor for mortality at initiation of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). The role of HAART is pivotal in the management of HIV-infected children. Treatment with HAART has been shown to decrease mortality and improve CD4 counts and reduce viral load. HAART has beneficial effects on the nutritional status as well. However, children who are severely malnourished have an increased risk of mortality when initiating HAART. A number of studies have thus assessed whether supplementation with macronutrients and micronutrients would improve the nutritional status and reduce morbidity and mortality in these children. http: //www. peertechz. com/HIV-Clinical-Scientific-Re search/p

Tuberculous Abscess of the Anterior Abdominal Wall: An Unusual Site of Presentation

Global Journal of Medical and Clinical Case Reports Case Report Tuberculous Abscess of the Anterior  Abdominal Wall: An Unusual Site of  Presentation Abstract The skeletal muscles are rarely affected by tuberculosis because they are not a favorable site for the survival and multiplication of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. A case of tuberculous abscess in rectus abdominis muscle is described in a 20- year- old female in an apparently healthy individual without any past history of tuberculosis. The diagnosis was made by ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration and cytological examination which revealed caseating granuloma with central necrosis, lymphocytes, and giant cells, consistent with tuberculosis. After four weeks’ antituberculous treatment, she responded well and the abscess regressed considerably. In most cases, the muscle involvement is secondary and is caused by either hematogenous route or direct inoculation from a tuberculous abdominal lymph node or extension from under

Immunogenicity of Hydrolysate Formulas in Children (Part 1). Review of 202 Reactions

Journal of Vaccines and Immunology Review Article Immunogenicity of Hydrolysate Formulas in Children (Part 1). Review of 202 Reactions  Abstract   Cow’s milk (CM) protein hydrolyzed formulas (HFs) appeared in the 40’s with the aim of decreasing or eliminating the allergenicity of CM proteins, and in addition of red¬ucing the risk of sensitization. In recent years the so-called “hypoallergenic” (HA) formulas have been devel¬oped. The use of such HFs is based on the premise that predi¬gested pro¬teins, when fed as amino acids and peptides, provide nutrients in a not antigenic form. Thus, pro¬tein HFs have been classified as HA. These formulas are pro¬ces¬sed by heat and enzymatic hydrolysis, and the conforma¬tional and se¬quential structu¬res are more or less changed. The formulas contain pep¬tides of lower molecular wei¬ght (MW) than the nati¬ve protein source, which are thought to be less immuno¬genic. HFs appear to be nu¬triti¬onally adequate and infants gen¬erally gain weight

Attitudes towards a Complete Smoking Ban among Mental Health Hospital Employees in France

Archives of Nursing Practice and Care Research Article Attitudes towards a Complete Smoking Ban among Mental Health Hospital Employees in France  Background: Incitements to smoking cessation in patients hospitalized in mental health settings should be an ethical commitment for the mental health staff. However, worldwide studies have shown that the mental health staff is often reluctant to the implementation of smoking bans, and that the psychological attitude of the nursing staff may even sometimes wreck the efforts to ban smoking. No studies have been made in France investigating the psychological attitudes of mental health employees towards a complete smoking ban. http: //www. peertechz. com/Nursing-Practice-Care/pdf/ ANPC-1-103.pdf

Health Behaviors of Centenarians are Worth Attention

Archives of Nursing Practice and Care Editorial Health Behaviors of Centenarians are Worth Attention  In contemporary society, it’s important to prevent and minimize the impact of non-communicable disease [1]. Health behaviors, such as physical inactivity, smoking, obesity, poor diets, and alcohol misuse are among the most common causes of disease and premature deaths in the world [2,3]. With the development of the economy and the level of medical and health care, the proportion of the elderly population is becoming big, and the number of centenarians is increasing both in China and many other developing countries. http: //www. peertechz. com/Nursing-Practice-Care/pdf/ ANPC-1-104.pdf
International Journal of Immunotherapy and Cancer Research Research Article Adiponectin Regulates the Development and Progression of MCA-Induced Sarcoma in Mice Background: Sarcomas are malignant tumors with low survival rates and remain refractory to the current therapeutic methods. Adiponectin plays crucial roles in many physiological responses. Studies have shown that adiponectin could regulate various tumors. However, the roles of adiponectin in sarcomas remain unknown. Results: In this study, we found that the adiponectin-deficient mice induced by MCA develop sarcomas more rapidly and frequently than the WT mice do. With the sarcomas formation, adiponectin deficiency showed inhibiting effect on tumor growth and reduced the mortality rates of the mice with sarcomas. Conclusions: Adiponectin inhibits the sarcomas formation, but may promote the growth of tumor after sarcomas occur. http: //www. peertechz. com/Immunotherapy-Cancer-Resea rch/pdf/IJICR-1-101.pdf
Archives of Community Medicine & Public Health Short Communication The Conflation of Health and Healthcare Health is difficult to define while healthcare relates to the various services available. Recent election campaigns within the United-Kingdom seemed to conflate the terms health and healthcare. Healthcare investment is not a guarantee of improved health, a point the general public may fully not appreciate. Recently, I attended a meeting in west Wales with a community group. Their interest in health was focused on healthcare, so we discussed an alternative model: http: //www. peertechz. com/Community-Medicine-Public- Health/pdf/ACMPH-1-102.pdf

Buprenorphine Maintenance for Opioid Dependence in Public Sector Healthcare: Benefits and Barriers

Journal of Addiction Medicine and Therapeutic Science Review Article Buprenorphine Maintenance for  Opioid Dependence in Public Sector  Healthcare: Benefits and Barriers3 Background: Since its U.S. FDA approval in 2002, buprenorphine has been available for maintenance treatment of opiate dependence in primary care physicians’ offices. Though buprenorphine was intended to facilitate access to treatment, disparities in utilization have emerged; while buprenorphine treatment is widely used in private care setting, public healthcare integration of buprenorphine lags behind. Results: Through a review of the literature, we found that U.S. disparities are partly due to a shortage of certified prescribers, concern of patient diversion, as well as economic and institutional barriers. Disparity of buprenorphine treatment dissemination is concerning since buprenorphine treatment has specific characteristics that are especially suited for low-income patient population in public secto
Archives of Renal Diseases and Management Research Article Clinical Significance of Hilar Hyalinosis in Glomeruli of Children with Idiopathic Nephrotic Syndrome Introduction: Hilar hyalinosis (HH) of glomeruli has been thought for a long time to be a precursor or a variant of focal glomerulosclerosis (FGS). In view of its implications on treatment and prognosis of nephrotic syndrome, a retrospective study of hilar hyalinosis in children with the idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS), but without any other histologic evidence of FGS, was performed to determine the clinic-pathologic significance of this lesion. Methods: A total of 92 Children with INS who had kidney biopsies for frequent relapses, steroid dependency or resistance were included. Eight of them had a biopsy-proven diagnosis of either minimal change disease or mild IgM nephropathy with HH in 6-25% of glomeruli were compared to control group consisting of 84 children with either minimal change disease (n=57) or I

International Journal of Oral and Craniofacial Science Case Report Rehabilitation of Surgically Resected Soft Palate with Interim Velopharyngeal Obturator Rehabilitation of surgical resection defects is always a challenging clinical scenario. These defects pose a major physiological and psychological threat not only to the patients, but to the entire family. A multidisciplinary team approach, thorough investigation, long term follow up, proper counselling and sympathetic attitude may help to bring these suffering patients back to normal life stream. Recent advancements in Dental Materials, CAD CAM, Laser Technology and Ossseo integrated Implants have revolutionized the treatment outcomes. However in certain clinical case scenarios, conventional prosthodontic principles and routinely available materials are still the gold standards. This case report presents the prosthodontic rehabilitation of soft palate after surgical resection due to adenoid cystic cell carcinoma. h
