A comparison of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with culture for the detection of   Streptococcus agalactiae   in vaginal swabs from women with a history of preterm delivery May 10-14 2011, Philippine International Convention Centre, Manila, Philippines Kaambo E* and Africa CWJ Introduction:   Streptococcus agalactiae   (group B streptococci (GBS), emerged in the 1960s as a significant human pathogen that causes neonatal sepsis and meningitis. The presence of GBS in pregnant women is regarded to be the leading cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity in South Africa and the world. GBS is a bacterial pathogen frequently isolated from the genitourinary tracts of about 35% of healthy adult women. Women who are colonized with GBS might also develop pregnancy-associated infections including urinary tract infection, bacteremia, and postpartum endometritis.Early detection is imperative in order to avoid adverse pregnancy outcomes.   http://www.peertechz.co...

CASE REPORT Effective Percutaneous Repositioning of an Active Fixation ICD Lead We report a case of effective trans catheter repositioning of an ICD lead that was displaced during a trans venous extraction procedure of another malfunctioning ICD lead. This original technique was effective also in screwing-in the active fixation tip of the lead. Immune genetic predisposition and abnormalities of humeral and cell-mediated immunity seems to be implicated in their genesis. In this observation, we describe a combination of three autoimmune diseases in the same patient namely vitiligo evolving since childhood, autoimmune dermo epidermal bullous dermatosis and autoimmune thrombocytopenia. The discovery of such associations may limit the therapeutic arsenal.
